Maclaren Pushchairs

MacClaren pushchairs are well known for being excellent quality and well designed. The first Maclaren baby buggy revolutionised traditional prams and pushchairs with its innovative design, making life easier for millions of parents worldwide. In 1965 the founder of Maclaren pushchairs, Owen Maclaren, invented a lightweight, folding buggy based on aeronautical design, knowledge of which he gained from his experience as a test pilot.

Having watched his daughter struggle with a clumsy, bulky pram for his granddaughter he used his knowledge of lightweight, load-bearing structures to develop the first Maclaren buggy, the B-01. Since then Maclaren have used the same technology to produce a full range of pushchairs and buggies, setting the standard for innovative design and quality.

Like the B-01, all Maclaren buggies are durable, safe and lightweight. Owen Maclaren used a mixture of modern materials such as tubular aluminium with a durable structure that could comfortably carry even a large toddler, and a folding mechanism that became known as an umbrella fold as the buggy fitted into the same space as an umbrella when folded. This revolutionary prototype is still a standard that pushchairs manufacturers aim for today.

Contemporary Maclaren buggies are descendants of the original B-01, retaining some of the original design features, such as the 4-wheel, lightweight frame, easy folding mechanism and durable fabric but they are bang up to date in style. Such as the Maclaren Techno XLR-Black/Champagne, the most recent version of the high-tech Techno buggy that was first introduced in 2000 and became one of the most popular Maclaren buggies ever because of its lightweight yet rugged construction. It has a sturdy, aeronautical-quality aluminium frame, a one-hand, compact umbrella-fold and lockable, front swivel wheels, amongst many other features. Maclaren were actually the first UK pushchair manufacturers to introduce buggies with front swivel wheels and linked brakes for safety in 1981.

They continued their innovativeness in 1991 when they introduced their first car seat pushchair, so that baby could be moved from the car to the buggy without being woken. This is another important feature carried through to today’s designs, such as the Maclaren Young Profi Plus Infant carrier for XLR in Coffee/Marsh Green, which is suitable for babies from birth. It has rear-facing car seat with a multi adjusting back section that means the car seat grows with your baby and it is easy to transport using an ergonomic carry handle. It also has a lightweight and highly stable shell with double side impact protection, a classic safety feature as all Maclaren pushchairs have above-industry standard safety features.

In 1991 Maclaren introduced the first twin umbrella-folding buggy that could take two babies from birth and fit through a standard width doorway. This is an important consideration if you’re looking for a twin pushchair and Maclaren’s Twin Techno stroller retains this feature. It is easy to manoeuvre, light, fits through standard doorways and is suitable for two babies or toddlers of the same or different ages (suitable for babies from birth).

In 2006 a Maclaren baby could enjoy the latest design in leather when the company celebrated over 40 years since the birth of the very first Maclaren pushchair. The Maclaren Leather collection includes the Maclaren Leather Stroller in black, the world’s first carbon fibre stroller with a high grain leather seat. Suitable from birth it has suspension in single spoke wheels, 4 seat positions, an adjustable leg rest and handle, one-hand fold and tilting zipped hood with sun visor and 99% UV protective viewing window.

Wow, with technical specs like that you are just spoilt for choice with Maclaren pushchairs but you can rest assured that whichever Maclaren buggy you choose they all have the highest standard safety features, practicality and a design based on years of use. You can’t really go wrong with a Maclaren pushchair, as they all look stylish and will do the job they are meant to do with ease for you and comfort for your babies.
