Silver Cross Pushchairs

Silver Cross Pushchairs have a long history but they have always been at the forefront of chic, contemporary design. It all began as far back as 1877 when an inventor and engineer called William Wilson, with the help of his wife, started his own business making postal carts and “perambulators” at Silver Cross Street in Leeds. Wilson’s very first “perambulator” was revolutionary as it has the first reversible folding hood and a unique suspension system.

William Wilson died in 1913, by which time he had registered over 30 patents related to pram design and he handed over the company to his three sons. They continued the success of Silver Cross pushchairs with cutting edge design for the time and preserved its excellent reputation by supplying a baby carriage to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

The Silver Cross connection to royalty continued in 1948 when the Queen chose a Silver Cross pram for baby Prince Charles. By this time Silver Cross had replaced plywood bodies with aluminium, producing some of the highest quality prams in the world. Their innovation continued over the decades and in the early 1980’s they launched a lightweight pushchair called the Wayfarer.

They continue to design practical, lightweight and compact pushchairs in a whole variety of colours and contemporary designs. They are now bang up to date with their latest ranges and offer a choice of chassis and body combinations so you can tailor a buggy to suit your needs. They currently have four distinct ranges of pushchairs and strollers – Dazzle, Fizz and Pop.

Even the names suggest funky, modern, stylish design combined with urban practicality. Dazzle is a sleek stroller in a whole range of dazzling colours for newborn babies to toddlers. It is easy to fold and compact, and with its luxurious fabric and 4-wheel suspension it is a favourite among celebrities. Fizz is their new ultra lightweight every day stroller. It is compact and very light at only 4.5kg, for babies from 6 months to toddlers. Pop is a multi award winning, lightweight design ideal for travelling with ease while giving your baby comfort and stability. It folds down easily and is suitable from birth to toddler.

Contemporary Silver Cross pushchairs may look very different to their older relatives, stretching as far as back as the 19th century, but they have retained an air of style and quality, and such a long history of success can only reassure us of the commitment to innovation and practical design by Silver Cross. Their Royal connection and the current trend of celebrities buying Silver Cross pushchairs for their precious little ones is also testament to their high standards.
